Cromarty
Adult Learners
Group (CALG)
CALG was founded in 2001 with the help of funding
from the Highland Council. CALG ran a programme of leisure classes for adults in the Cromarty and
Resolis areas throughout the winter months.
CALG provided courses in Art,
Basic Life Support, Basket Making, Bicycle Maintenance, Computing,
Family History, French, French Polishing, Gaelic, Geology, History of
Cromarty, Life Drawing, Philosophy, Photography, Salsa Dance, Sculpture,
Social Dancing, Spanish, Tin Whistle, Website Design and Wood
Restoration.
CALG employed mainly
local tutors to share their
expertise and knowledge.
CALG is no more!
At the
CALG Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday 29 May 2007, it was agreed
that the Group would formally close down.
This is
for a variety of reasons:-
The usual source of funding from The
Highland Council is no longer available and the funding required to support CALG is not easy to obtain.
There
will be lots happening in Cromarty as the Highland Year of
Culture 2007 gets underway and is was felt that these activities would
have an impact on the time available for local people to act on the
Committee, teach on courses and attend courses.
Most of
the CALG committee have worked really hard on a voluntary basis to run
a programme of courses twice a year for the last five years and they no
longer wish to continue.
MAYBE one day a group of local people will get together and decide to reincarnate CALG - or something similar!
